Ever since I was a child, I intuitively knew the importance of belonging. I found myself drawn to connecting with others and providing a space for them to be completely and utterly themselves. This ability allowed me to serve people in a variety of unique ways: from working for nuns in rural Guatemala, to teaching English in Mexico, to fundraising for a youth development non-profit, and finally, helping corporations connect with various causes and volunteer opportunities. All of this work was important but I continued to feel myself called to deeper work, work that really got to the heart of a person.
As a result, I went back to school and received my Master of Counseling from Northwest Nazarene University. My training afforded me the opportunity to work with individuals and families struggling with the repercussions of trauma and abuse, including relational issues, anxiety, grief, depression, and codependency/lack of boundaries. Since then, I have dedicated my career to learning how to heal the wounds that exist deep within ourselves. I have been trained in EMDR, have gone on multiple retreats focused on releasing somatic tension stored in the body, and have dedicated my continued education to learning how to use the mind-body connection to heal.
Aside from being a counselor, I am also a spouse, mom (to two young kids and a dog), singer, waterskier, outdoor lover, and curiosity seeker. I am fueled by a desire to foster a deeper relationship with myself. Working toward my own growth and enlightenment is a hobby of mine, one I am confident allows me to show up as my best self for my clients.
I never ask of my clients what I won’t do for myself, which is why I honor and bring all parts of myself into our work together. I am a learner, a listener, a teacher, a healer, and a collaborator, among other things. All of these aspects show up in my counseling style and are used to serve my clients. It is an honor and privilege to do this work.
Being a counselor is more than a job for me, it is a calling.
